Women's Birth & Wellness Center

So...though I still haven't made a general announcement as of today, 10/9/12, I'm pretty pregnant. There isn't much to do to get around that fact considering I'm about 19 weeks along (check out Jayden's ticker in the sidebar!). Since that is a fact, and life is about to get SO MUCH MORE real than many of my peers have experienced thus far, I've decided to try to make this blog work for me, and work with me to help educate, entertain, and enlighten myself, my loved ones, and anyone (like I sometimes do) that gets far too bored and starts reading random blogs or searching topics they don't want to ask about on Google.

So...topic of the day? The Women's Birth & Wellness center in Chapel Hill, NC. We've (me and my darling curly head) had a few ups and downs in the selection process, and we're happy with our decision to use the only certified free-standing birth center in Eastern North Carolina. Don't mistake me - I take prescriptions from my trusted doc, Dr. Theresa Amerson in downtown Raleigh, I'm not 100% holistic, a health food nut, or in any related category. I do however believe that women giving birth is NATURAL and unless something goes terribly wrong (not a little bit slow, or a lot slow, but actually wrong) it should be done naturally. That being said, unless Jayden or I are sick or in trouble, I see no reason for the increased cost and routine needles of a hospital.

Which brings me to the birthing center! The Women's Birth & Wellness Center is a pretty cool place thus far. There's a system in place to keep monthly numbers manageable (i.e. don't run out of beds for women in labor) as well as education options (and requirements) for those that attend. The bulletin board alone probably provides more information, resources, and informational opportunities than the average hospital bulletin.

Well...I'm supposed to be working, so more to come later, however after 2 visits I can already say the only other place I would choose to have my children (assuming no life-threatening issues) is at home.
